Description: Antique 1902-1911 M.S.A. Co. ( Marble's Safety Axe Company ) Folding Safety Knife with Gutta Percha handles which are embossed on one side and read " MARBLE'S SAFETY POCKET KNIFE - M.S.A. CO. GLADSTONE, MICH. U.S.A. " while the opposite side of the handles pictures a wild animal possibly a Fox or Lynx sneaking up on some Game Birds. It has the early "U" shaped bolsters and the slotted hole thru the safety latch. The blade shows only a fair amount of sharpening and is still very sharp to the touch. The Gutta Percha handles are a form of black hard rubber that was used by Marble's Safety Axe Company on some of their early knives and axes before making use of the Antlered Stag and later on stacked leather. We acquired this safety knife along with many other Marble's products from the estate of a Norther Michigan collector who recently passed away. This is a sensational folding knife for any serious collector and resembles one we recently sold to a collector but the added inscription makes this example somewhat extra special. Ref. # 174
