Description: A-1967; Wilkes-1941. A phenomenal Mint State example of this ever-popular Genghis Khan Dirham, this wonderful example displays a bright rich luster, with crisply applied details, sharp strike, and full readable inscriptions. Example of Genghis Khan Dirhams are EXTREMELY RARE in Mint State condition, with only one example surpassing this piece on the NGC census. A piece that will suffer no shortage of excited, as the type is seldom offered in this condition. As Genghis Khan and his army continued their rapid conquest across Asia, they opted not to significantly change the existing monetary systems in newly-acquired territories. Thus, the present Dirham is only a slight modification from the type issued under the Khwarizmshah Ala al-Din Muhammad II who ruled an extensive empire in Central Asia. Following the Mongols' complete destruction of the Khwarazmian Empire, Genghis added his name in Arabic script to the coinage and continued his pursuit of Jalal al-Din, heir to the Khwarazmian throne. As one of the very few coins issued under Genghis Khan to actually bear his name, this is a highly desirable type among collectors.
