This is the fifth release from this up-and-coming label, which has already been gaining attention as a must-have item for Miles collectors. Some fans have been asking if a “Kind of Blue” session collection would be released soon, and we are happy to report that they have been pleasantly disappointed, and that these sessions, commonly referred to by fans as the “Comeback Sessions,” are now available. In 1975, Miles came to Japan and produced the super-heavyweight masterpieces “Agartha” and “Pangaea,” but his impact had not abated and he went into a period of inactivity. The hiatus was broken in 1981 with the release of “The Man with the Horn” and the resumption of concert tours, including a tour of Japan. At the time, fans were eagerly awaiting the release of “The Man with the Horn. Meanwhile, during his hiatus, Miles did not just lie on the sofa in the living room every day watching TV. He was also secretly conducting sessions and experimenting with new directions. What you see here is a compilation of the sessions that took place during this hiatus, known as the “Comeback Sessions. Disc 1, the 1978 session, features a very rare lineup: Larry Coryell on guitar, TM Stevens on bass, and Al Foster on drums. Al Foster is on drums. Yasuki Nakayama, a Miles researcher, wrote that “Miles was probably just giving instructions from the control booth,” but the organ, which sounds quite Milesian in tone, is heard everywhere, suggesting that he would have participated in the studio session. However, this session itself, as well as the album itself, was never produced with these members and became a phantom session. The two 1981 sessions on the same disc are the “Back Seat Betty” sessions from “The Man with the Horn” and the “Back Seat Betty” sessions from “The Man with the Horn”. These are both alternate versions, and both are over 10 minutes long. The second alternate version is a very long version, almost 20 minutes long. The 1980 session on disc 2 is commonly believed to be a session for “Shout” from “The Man With The Horn,” but it is almost a different song. However, this song is a quite fine pop and funky masterpiece. The recording shows the band trying various approaches to the song in an attempt to perfect the song. Despite its high level of perfection, the song has never been released, and is therefore a fantastic song. The members had not yet joined Marcus Miller, and it can be said that this session was a transitional period before the members for the revival tour were decided. These are all valuable sessions focusing on the path to the revival of Miles the King, and are a must-have session collection following “Unreleased Bitches Brew Sessions”.
