Description: Merle Haggard is a country music icon. Not a short run who faded away over time. Merle was my dad’s very best friend – truly. Pop always knew when Merle was headed for Nashville and they always made time to see one another. Pop made all of Merle’s gold and platinum awards and he hosted many a get-together for Merle with other artists when he came to town. Okie from Muscogee, The Best of The Best and Poncho & Left are the other three. But this first platinum was his biggest seller. Since the record labels sent my dad all of the original record labels, album jackets, cassette inserts, etc. to help him design the awards, I have thousands and thousands of original record labels – some dating back to the 60’s. I’ve put together two framed “side” pieces to go along with the award which is X 15 X 2” Shadow box. The two extra items have matching frames. An 8 X 10 rare photo of Merle with his dates of birth and death, and a framed photo of HIS LAST APPEARANCE ON ANY STAGE just a few weeks before his death in 2016 as well as the original Side-2 record label and an original new cassette insert. My father was bed-ridden the last year of his life, but he and Merle devotedly spoke every Friday evening even when Merle was in concert, he would call Pop or Merle’s manager would call Pop and put Merle on after the show. Pop spoke with Merle the Friday evening before he passed in January of 2016, and Merle passed not long after..
