This statue is one of a small group of 30 statues that are the very last of my nearly 100 Mc Farlane “Action Figures” that I started offering in January. They have included individual players from MLB, the NFL and NBA. Made of a hard plastic resin called ABS, the McFarlane figures are probably the most realistic looking ones in the hobby, even more so than the many porcelain ones from other better known companies such as Danbury Mint, Salvino, Gartlan, Sport Legends, Sports Impressions, etc. Unfortunately, as true to detail that they are, the weakness of the McFarlane action figures in general is their inability to maintain their pose over time (most of my collection is over 15 years old). Their system of small steel posts mounted in a figure’s feet (usually) tends to break down and not hold it in place. Basketball figures in particular are difficult to keep from swiveling on the extending rod. When that happens they need to be glued in place. Of course if you never take them out of the plastic retail cover, that is not a problem. But I liked to keep them uncovered on shelves for viewing, so that was a problem for me. Therefore, many of my figures have eventually been glued to their bases.
