Description: McCoy Stadium Pawtucket Red Sox Pawtucket, Rhode Island ----------------------------------------------------------------------- McCoy Stadium was the former home of the Pawtucket Red Sox (PawSox) in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The stadium was built in 1942 and initially was called Pawtucket Stadium then renamed McCoy stadium in 1946. The Pawtucket Slaters (Boston Braves) were the first to call McCoy Stadium home and they played there for four seasons. Sadly, there wasn’t any baseball in McCoy for 16 years until the arrival in 1966 of the Pawtucket Indians, a Double-A team for the Cleveland Indians. After two seasons, the Indians moved to Waterbury, CT and McCoy again was without a team. In 1970, the Boston Red Sox relocated their Double-A Pittsburg (MA) team to McCoy Stadium and renamed them the Pawtucket Red Sox. After three years the team was promoted to the Triple-A International League. The team was purchased in 1977 by Ben Mondor who turned the ballpark and franchise into one of the most fan-friendly in all of professional baseball. Sadly, Mr. Mondor passed away in 2010. In 1981, McCoy stadium hosted the longest baseball game in history when the PawSox defeated the Rochester Red Wings in 33 innings by a score of 3–2. That year, the team was purchased by Larry Lucchino. In 1921, after many unsuccessful attempts to build a new stadium in Rhode Island, the PawSox regrettably, very regrettably, were relocated to Worcester(MA) and renamed the Worcester Red Sox (WooSox). The future of McCoy is unknown but hopefully someday baseball will return. Art print of McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, RI. MacGregor, Jr. was born in Medfield, MA, the son and grandson of Norfolk Hunt Club kennel masters. Many of his family members were self-taught artists, woodcarvers, automobile mechanics and veterans of foreign wars including his father a WW1 US Army veteran. Bill is a graduate of Medfield High School, Wentworth Institute, and Northeastern University. His engineering career, from which he is now retired, included working for military and aerospace companies in industrial engineering and IR optics. His painting incorporates “old skool” mechanical and civil drafting tools and he uses a mixed medium of watercolors, acrylics and inks. Two rabbits are often in quite a few of his paintings. Look for them. He is frequently commissioned by United States Naval officers to create paintings of their ships and aircraft carriers on nautical charts. In May,2018, and for one year, four of Bill’s automotive related paintings were on display at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, MA
