A general rule of thumb is use coarser tooth (less blades) for prep work and thinning out undercoat, finer tooth (more blades) for finishing. Two Strippers are commonly used to properly strip coat, especially on matted dogs- Lower number (Coarse) blade tools (6, 8, 10, 12) are commonly used for prep work, thinning of coat and then coat is “finished off” with a 16 or 20 (Fine) blade tool. For example, if you use a 6 or 8 blade first you would finish with a 16 blade tool.
