Description: This stunning oil on canvas from the middle 1800's measures 35" x 30" and depicts a handsome and prosperous man in his 30's-40's, The quality of the presentation and the wonderful, ruddy skin tones mark this as the work of an accomplished master portraitist; I see no signature. The wotk is satble with no obvious loss and it has an overall shiny varnish layer that flouresces in black light. I can see in-painted craquelure in the face and some areas of touch-up in the hair...nothing excessive or distracting. There are seven professional patches and 2 small tears (no significant loss) just above the subject's head. The London restorer's label looks to be from the 1960's-70s.
