Description: Available from Bluebird Books: Martin Chuzzlewit: The Nonesuch Dickens by Charles Dickens illustrated by Phiz in a hardcover edition in mylar wrapper Description: A hefty, attractive facsimile of the 1937 Nonesuch Press edition of the sixth novel by Charles Dickens (1812-1870), first published serially in 1843. Illustrated throughout with well-preserved original engraved illustrations by "Phiz" (Hablot Knight Browne). "Martin Chuzzlewit" did not achieve the high level of popularity of some of Mr. Dickens's other works, resulting in financial difficulty for Dickens. As a result, he wrote his famous "A Christmas Carol" as a means of earning additional money. In dark red cloth-covered boards backed in black leather, with titling in gilt on brown leather spine label; gilt titling on front cover, along with Nonesuch device on burgundy leather oval; sewn-in red satin ribbon placemarker. A facsimile of a turquoise cover to one of the weekly installments is included, along with facsimiles of the original title pages. Volume wrapped publisher's stiff paper band, which in turn is wrapped in heavy clear mylar cover. A clean, tightly-bound, clean copy, though with minor soiling to textblock edges. Mylar wrap with a few small tears & creases to edges and with some rubbing and mild soiling. Overall, this pleasing, weighty volume allows the reader to fully enjoy the masterful storyteller's classic tale. FINE - Approaches the condition of AS NEW, but lacking the crispness of a new book. These books or dust jackets should have no defects. NEAR FINE - Approaching FINE but with slight flaws. VERY GOOD - Describes a book or dust jacket that does show some small signs of wear or slight damage. GOOD - Describes the average used worn book or jacket that has flaws and/or damages. (An old bookseller said it best, "In rare books, Good ain't good".) FAIR - Worn book or jacket that is stained, has loose pages, tears, or otherwise has some sort of significant damage or other issue. POOR - Describes a book that is worn, damaged, stained or otherwise beat-up, making it useful as a reading copy but possibly not a collector copy. A POOR dust jacket is likely heavily torn, chipped or otherwise damaged.(A ' + ' or a ' - ' can indicate a shading of these values...either a nudge up, or a nudge down.)
