Description: Our client's finely modelled and cast bronze statue of a standing nude male with deep green/brown patina, after the original model by August Rodin (1840-1917), measures 40.5 in (102.9 cm) tall and weighs 68.6 lbs (31.1 kg). It is believed to date from the first or second quarter of the 20th century and is in ggood condition with light rubbing wear, scuffs, scratches, and dust/dirt in crevices. The original, known as L'Age d'Airain (The Age of Bronze), was his first major work and debuted in 1877 at the Paris Salon. Critics suggested the work was too life-like and accused the artist of using a live model (a technique known as surmoulage), which he vigorously denied. Thereafter the work was purchased by the state. This work has also been known under these alternative titles:Le Vaincue (The Vanquished), L'Homme des Premiers Ages (Early Man), and L'Homme s'éveillant à la Nature (Man Awakening to Nature).
