Description: This vintage oval scalloped edge platter was created by MacBeth-Evans. It's decorated with the American Sweetheart pattern in Monax (translucent white color). This glass has a thin delicate look to it. American Sweetheart has a central burst of swags and scrolls with curlicue shapes. You'll find this raised pattern on the front side rim edge of the platter. A ribbed pattern can be seen on the backside of the platter on the rim; and the center backside of platter is covered in the raised American Sweetheart pattern. Due to the translucent nature of this glass you'll see both patterns through the thin rim edge of the bowl. It's a very attractive design. History: MacBeth-Evans Glass Company started in Pennysylvania in 1899 and is most famous for this particular form of Depression Glass called Monax. In 1936 they merged with, and was pretty much taken over by Corning Glass in 1936. MacBeth-Evans manufactured American Sweetheart from 1930-1936. This pattern is one of the top five collected Depression Era patterns in glass. Maker Mark: No maker mark is on these pieces. Size: Platter measures approx. 13-1/4 x 10-1/4" Diameter Condition: Vintage. Excellent Pre-Owned. No chips, cracks, repairs, crazing, stains or utensil marks.
