Description: Up for your consideration this absolutely beautiful illustration from a novel Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens by Sir James Matthew Barrie - Looking Very Undancey Indeed by Arthur Rackham, framed and in a very good condition. The image is not a print. It looks like etching on linoleum plate. Lino etching is the process of using Caustic soda paste (a strong Alkali solution mixed with wallpaper paste) to etch the surface of a linoleum or vinyl to create a range of marks, and is different from linocut. Etching is an intaglio printmaking technique, which involves cutting into a flat surface to create grooves. Linocut is a relief printmaking technique, where the artwork is made up of what's left behind, not what's cut away. I'm not sure whether or not the plate been used to print something out, but if it was the prints would be mirrored copy of original illustration, unless there is another printmaking technique that allows to receive the correct result. I'm not sure how to date this item due to it uniqueness and near excellent condition, but I'm sure it's vintage. Frame measures approximately 16½" x 14½", visible image 10" x 8". Arthur Rackham RWS (19 September 1867 – 6 September 1939) was an English book illustrator. He is recognized as one of the leading figures during the Golden Age of British book illustration. His work is noted for its robust pen and ink drawings, which were combined with the use of watercolour, a technique he developed due to his background as a journalistic illustrator. Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens is a novel by J. M. Barrie, illustrated by Arthur Rackham, and published by Hodder & Stoughton in late November or early December 1906; it is one of four major literary works by Barrie featuring the widely known literary character he created, Peter Pan. I found no significant condition issues with the item, but signs of previous use and ownership should be expected consistent with its antique timeline and should be taken into consideration with age and ownership. Please note: I will accept any reasonable offer. Please check out all of the pictures and thank you for watching.
