Description: Up for sale is one Grand Nain Banana Plant. This is a classic commerical variety selected for its vigor, speed of growth and abundance of tasty bananas. The young leaves take on beautiful maroon to purple striations just like the closely related Dwarf Cavendish. These banana plants grow fast and mature in 9 to 12 months on average with up to 90 bananas per bunch. When the plant fruits, it is cut back and replaced by the next fruiting stalk for a perpetual supply of bananas. Theyre ideal in zones 9 to 12, but they can be grown in colder climates if kept from temperatures below about 27 degrees F where the stalk dies back. Even if the stalk freezes, the plants can grow back. They will do so more quickly as the root system expands with older plants. These plants tend to produce multiple offsets, but it is recommended to cut back, leaving the energy to funnel into one main stalk. Mulching the base heavily is recommended. Very limited supply.
