Description: Life of Charles Dickens by John Forster, published by Chapman and Hall, two volumes in one, many black and white illustrations. Publication date not provided in book. “The Charles Dickens Edition”, full leather, smooth, beautiful binding, gilt trim on spine and on edges, tooling to edges, imperfections and scratches to covers and scratches to marbled edges. The binding is unsigned, research indicates a trade bindery, likely in London, ca 1875, but there is no definite proof. Beautiful, decorative endpapers. The imperfections to the leather covers, in my opinion, add to the interest, beauty and originality of this copy. Raised bands to spine, beautiful tan/gilt (see pictures). As noted under Condition, the print is very small. The illustrations are very special, interesting and appealing to collectors.
