Levin Radius Lathe Originally for Lensmaking Useful for Watchmaking

Description: This is a 10mm collet type (D-type) Levin Radius Lathe which was originally used for lensmaking (contact lenses) but is very versatile and can be used for watchmaking, clockmaking or instrument applications. This is in well-used condition with plenty of cosmetic marks but functions well. The headstock makes some sound but is quieter than most Levin instrument lathes I've used. Total indicated spindle runout measured at a distance of about 1/4 inch from the face of the spindle using a Levin dead center is 4 microns, which is about 0.00015 inches (see the video). The motor and control work fine. The dead center is not included in this sale. This lathe is about 50 years old and shows its age but still works as it should. The swing motion of the slide currently adjusted to be a bit stiff but I prefer it this way since in my shop I've found that it can actually be rotated to the 90 degree position and will hold that position and be used as a cross slide as with a conventional lathe (this trick works when doing light cuts). To adjust this tightness you need a two-pin spanner to rotate a threaded nut located beneath the cross slide. Because eBay's shipping calculator seems to give an inaccurate cost for items this large and heavy, I'm listing this with a fixed shipping charge of $150 for ground service, probably UPS and I believe that this will require signature confirmation due to the value. Local pickup at no charge in the northern suburbs of Chicago is fine too. I will only ship this to the USA.
