Description: “Blue Lake, Mount Gambier” Original watercolour from the artist’s estate. An original watercolour on paper by John Flexmore, in outstanding condition, of the famed Mount Gambier’s Blue Lake. Unsigned, but clearly Flexmore’s work, painted in the 1970s or '80s. Skilfully drafted, the lake is shown in a dip between two hills, with a background of rolling hills. The blue and white of the sky and clouds are reflected in the water. A lovely calm scene. John Flexmore, (1911 - 2004) was a well-known Melbourne artist, a watercolour specialist, mainly of representational landscapes. He studied at the National Gallery School, Melbourne from 1930-37 under Bernard Hall, Charles Wheeler and W.B. McInnes. After war service he painted mostly watercolour landscapes, but he also painted several oil portraits under commission. In his early days, made a considerable number of linotype prints. He held biennial one-man shows at the Athenaeum Gallery, Melbourne until 1970. Flexmore’s works are very easy to live with, being very restful. His work is represented in private collections in both Australia and overseas. More works by John Flexmore. Size: 66 x 102 cm.
