Description: Original oil on canvas by American artist Kenneth Frazier (1867-1949). A circa 1905 impressionist landscape with tree, this painting is signed in the bottom left with the artist's estate stamp. The painting measures 13 x 16 inches, with the gallery frame and linen liner it is 17 1/2 x 20 3/4 inches. The canvas is mounted on French type stretchers and the reverse has the gallery label of the Jeanne Frank Gallery, I'm told this gallery handled the estate of the artist. The painting is in excellent condition, the frame has some touched up dings and scrapes. Kenneth Frazier (1867-1949) was a well regarded American painter and illustrator whose work combined the influences of the Impressionist, Art Nouveau, and Realist styles. Frazier was born in Paris to American parents, after graduating from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, he returned to Europe to study. First at the Herkomer School in the U.K. and later, and more importantly, in Paris at the Academie Julian as a pupil under Jules Joseph Lefebvre and Benjamin Constant. While in France, he was also much influenced by the new style of Impressionism then taking hold in avant-garde Paris. His circle of friends included Toulouse-Lautrec, Verlaine, Whistler and Oscar Wilde. On his return to America, he worked as an artist and resided in New York City. Frazier was elected an Associate of the National Academy of Design in 1906. He exhibited in the historically important 1913 Armory Show and was also a member of the Society of American Artists and the Century Club of New York. Frazier died at his home in Garrison, New York in August of 1949. In 1979, Paul Chew authored a comprehensive book on his career, "Kenneth Frazier ANA 1867-1949", published by the Westmoreland County Museum of Art. Works by this artist can be found in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Harvard Art Museums.
