Description: Additional Information from InnerSleeve Product Description Personnel: Kenny Garrett (alto saxophone); Woody Shaw (trumpet, flugelhorn); Mulgrew Miller (piano); Tony Reedus (drums). Liner Note Author: Stanley Crouch. Recording information: Van Gelder Recording Studio; En (12/28/1984). Editor: Max Bolleman. Alto saxophonist Kenny Garrett's career would really take off after his association with Miles Davis in the late '80s. His 1984 debut album, INTRODUCING KENNY GARRETT, predates that association. It doesn't quite measure up to the fine albums he would produce in the '90s and beyond, but INTRODUCING is a solid first effort, showing off Garrett's formidable chops and featuring a dynamite quintet that includes the great Woody Shaw on trumpet. The fare is straight post-bop, with a strong debt to the Blue Note tradition of the '60s. While Garrett would go on to greater commercial and artistic achievements, the seeds of his later success are here, and make for a thoroughly engaging album.
