Description: This rare and unique painting is by the gifted Mexican artist José Hanhausen and depicts the Four Horses of San Marco Basilica in Venice, Italy. The painting was signed and dated by the artist in 1956. It features a stunning portrayal of San Marco Square using a mix of expressionism and post-impressionism style. The painting is gouache (watercolor) on paper, and is matted and framed in a vintage frame. Exquisite use of color and a bold expressive style are apparent in this piece. A similar watercolor painting by Hanhausen depicting San Marco Square sold in 2022 for $550, by Lewis & Maese Auction Company in Houston, Texas. José Hanhausen (1918-2005) was a 20th Century Artist and Architect. He was also a professor of Architecture at the National University of Mexico. He spent 30 years teaching several generations of Mexican and Latin American architects in the subjects of project composition, Art History and the History of Architecture. In addition to being a gifted Architect, he possessed a virtuoso technique of watercolor on paper, which was his sole distraction in the last years of his life, long time after he abandoned the practice of building, teaching and project oversight. His first paintings (this is one) were created when he was in his late thirties (mid 1950's), when he began his studies to become an architect. Dimensions: Frame is 16"w x 20"hView is 10"w x 13"h
