John Sherwood & Sons Dish

Description: DESCRIPTION AND CONDITION Up for sale is a small dish with a glass insert. The dish has an unusual Beaver hallmark that is attributed to the John Sherwood & Sons. I understand that they made silver plate items. The John Sherwood & Sons silversmiths are recorded from Birmingham 1858-96, subsequently recorded with William Sherwood, who retired on 31st December 1899, as a partner, together with Wilfred Sherwood (1899-1909) and George Sherwood (1901-1909). The firm used a facing left "BEAVER" figural trademark. The dish measures about 6” wide. The opening for the insert measures about 3” wide. I purchased them together, but the glass insert may be a non-related addition. There are some chips along the top edges of the glass handles. There are some stains and stubborn tarnish on the dish. There is some general wear and aging as well. Please review the photographs and email me if you have any questions or want additional photographs.
