Description: Zuni Pueblo artist John Lucio (1919-1990) was known for his technical skill at inlay jewelry and precise silver work. Eagle dancers were a preferred subject of his. Examples of his work are not always signed, but they are easily attributed to him due to their fine execution. This stunning Zuni Eagle dancer is a bolo slide and is constructed of inlaid coral, jet or onyx, turquoise and mother of pearl, all set in silver channels. Not signed, and not marked as to purity of silver. It did test as Sterling. Marked "Bennett Pat. Pend. C-31"Lightly inscribed into metal backing are the numbers "450". Size: 2 1/2" tall by 2 1/8" wide.28.4 grams Condition: Very good overall condition with normal signs of aging. There is one area above eye where the mother of pearl has an inclusion. It shows more in photos than it does to the naked eye. No missing stones and the silver work is amazingly precise.
