Description: Vintage hardcover edition of The Looking Glass War, by John Le Carré (Coward-McCann, 1965; 6th impression). The fourth book in Le Carré's highly successful George Smiley books, The Looking Glass War was written in direct response to the popularity of Le Carré's previous book, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold. The author was dismayed at the number of readers who thought that the book presented the world of espionage in a positive light, so Le Carré wrote this novel in order to completely dispel any romanticized views. He depicts the spies in the book as inept, unglamorous, and in some cases, corrupt. Nevertheless, the book further popularized the character of George Smiley, who would go on to feature heavily in Le Carré's later books. The Looking Glass War was made into a film in 1969, starring Christopher Jones, Ralph Richardson, and Anthony Hopkins. This book is in very good condition, with an intact dust jacket and no rips, tears, marks, or other major signs of wear.
