Description: “Ballerina” Original drawing from the artist’s estate. A drawing in pencil on paper by John Flexmore of a young ballerina, done most probably as a sketch prior to a painting. Unsigned and dated, but most likely from circa the 1950s. The same dancer posed for another drawing, also listed. Some wear, and creasing, particularly around the edges, along with some age discolouration and foxing. Size: 58.5 x 46 cm. More works by John Flexmore. John Flexmore, (1911 - 2004) was a well-known Melbourne artist, a watercolour specialist, mainly of representational landscapes. He studied at the National Gallery School, Melbourne from 1930-37 under Bernard Hall, Charles Wheeler and W.B. McInnes. After war service he painted mostly watercolour landscapes, but he also painted several oil portraits under commission. In his early days, made a considerable number of linotype prints. He held biennial one-man shows at the Athenaeum Gallery, Melbourne until 1970. Flexmore’s works are very easy to live with, being very restful. His work is represented in private collections in Australia and overseas. Please view all the photos before purchasing, they complete the description.
