Description: “Design for a Fan” Original, from the Artist’s Estate An original design for a fan from 1983 by John Flexmore, watercolour on card, laminated by the artist for protection. The scene is of a fanciful mountain pool with naked maidens bathing. Cameo scenes are top centre, far left and right. Signed and dated lower left, titled verso. John Flexmore, (1911 - 2004) was a well-known Melbourne artist, a watercolour specialist, mainly of representational landscapes. He studied at the National Gallery School, Melbourne from 1930-37 under Bernard Hall, Charles Wheeler and W.B. McInnes. After war service he painted mostly watercolour landscapes, but he also painted several oil portraits under commission. In his early days, made a considerable number of linotype prints. He held biennial one-man shows at the Athenaeum Gallery, Melbourne until 1970. Flexmore’s works are very easy to live with, being very restful. His work is represented in private collections in Australia and overseas. Condition: very good vintage condition, the colours are strong, vivid and vibrant, no fading.
