Description: This auction is for a wonderful Jim Slack American Shore Bird, the Black Bellied Plover. The American plover is a medium-sized plover. The genus name is Latin and means relating to rain, from pluvia, "rain". It was believed that golden plovers flocked when rain was imminent. The species name dominica refers to Santo Domingo, now Hispaniola, in the West Indies. Just from looking at this bird by this carver you see his attention to detail and precision while combining this his own artistic impressions. Jim Slack was born in 1941 in Pekin Illinois. Both Jim and his wife Pat names are normally signed on the bottom of the decoys. Jim has been carving close to 40 years. Jim primarily carves duck and shorebird decoys.
