Description: This is among a large number of playbills currently being listed from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York. (See cut songs below) ....... This is a rare Monday, January 21st, 1929 combined program (playbill) from the one-week, Pre-Broadway engagement of the new FANNY TODD MITCHELL, WERNER JANSSEN, MANN HOLINER and J. KEIRN BRENNAN musical comedy "BOOM BOOM" at the Shubert Theatre in Newark, New Jersey. (The production would open January 28th, 1929 at the Casino Theatre in New York City and run for only 72 performances.) ..... The musical starred FRANK McINTYRE and JEANETTE MacDONALD and the cast included STANLEY RIGGS, KENDALL CAPPS, EDDIE NELSON, NELL KELLY, LAURETTE ADAMS, RICHARD LEE, ARCHIE LEACH (who after appearing in several musicals on Broadway under his birth name, would go to Hollywood in 1931, change his name to CARY GRANT and become one of Hollywood's biggest film stars), MARCELLA SWANSON, HARRY WELSH, EVELYN SAYRES, LORETTA SAYRES, DOREEN GLOVER, JESSIE PAYNE, JACKIE HURLBERT and the 12 JACK DONAHUE - JOHN BOYLE GIRLS ..... CONDITION: With the exception of a vertical crease, light soiling and moderate edge wear, this rare program is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian.
