Description: JAMES BALDWIN Go Tell It On The Mountain Boxed First Edition Library FEL 1981 Perfect gift for the book collector! High quality exact facsimile of the 1st edition of James Baldwin, GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN. Published by First Edition Library - FEL. Hardbound, in jacket and hard slipcase. This was purchased in 1987. Go Tell It on the Mountain is a 1953 semi-autobiographical novel by James Baldwin. It tells the story of John Grimes, an intelligent teenager in 1930s Harlem, and his relationship with his family and his church. The novel also reveals the back stories of John's mother, his biological father, and his violent, fanatically religious stepfather, Gabriel Grimes. The novel focuses on the role of the Pentecostal Church in the lives of African Americans, both as a negative source of repression and moral hypocrisy and a positive source of inspiration and community. In the late 1980s the First Edition Library (FEL) began publishing high quality facsimiles of famous first editions of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Sold via subscription, the FEL eventually produced over one hundred titles, ranging from The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn to Norman Mailer's The Naked and the Dead. The degree of accuracy maintained in the duplication of original first editions was nothing less than extraordinary. A distinguishing differences in First Edition Library productions is the use of acid free paper whether it was in the original or not - and often it was not. Condition: Excellent with minor signs of wear. The hard slipcase box has minor surface scuffs or smudge. The book itself is in outstanding condition. The back of the desk jacket appears to have some minor spots. Please view images for details. Measures 8.75”x6”x1.25” - 304 pages Weight: 1 lb 8 oz Offers are welcome.
