At various times, it was classified into the genera Oxyrhina, Isurus, Carcharodon, and finally Cosmopolitodus where it remains for now. It is commonly known as the Broad-Tooth Mako, the Extinct Giant Mako (a testament to its estimated maximum size of 23 feet!) and the Broad-Tooth White Shark (in reference to its supposed ancestry to modern White Sharks.
