Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Sir Isaac Newton unsigned handwritten notes on the subject of religion. This example is newly-discovered and has never before been offered for sale. The page deals with Revelation and the Church: "The (?) is spewed out of Christ's mouth and her candlestick is removed out of its place. Then she ceases to be illuminated by the seven lamps, and she is represented by the seven golden candlesticks. Before the opening of the seventh seal the Dragon went from her to make war with the revenant (?) not yet begin the war by that separation the Empire dreams distinguished into (?) conspires the Dragon + Beast + the Church into two Churches the Woman + the remnant of her seed: but this distinction was imperfect, for the Beast was not received but not yet risen out of the sea and the Woman was distinguished but not yet Divided in communion from the remnant of her seed. At the opening of the Seventh Seal the separation is removed and made more powerful, the Woman breaks communion with the remnant of her seed, the two beasts rise out of the seas and earth like one to succeed the Dragon in the west and (?) woman in the east. The Dragon makes war with the remnant of the woman's seed + dissolves their churches (?) similitude are initiated in the religion (?) her horned Beast and receive his mark. The first temple is restrained to the (?) for the worship of the seven churches and a second temple succeeds it in the west for the worship of the two churches represented by the two candlesticks of olive tree." It goes on from there on the reverse side. Note that while this is a partial sheet of paper, unevenly torn, the note itself is not incomplete. Notice that Newton continues writing until he fills in the bottom right corner of the page before continuing on the reverse. Newton evidently tore paper into strips to write notes, probably later compiling them into a finished manuscript. Although Newton's primary work was in science, he was keenly interested in religion, and especially the failings of the church to reflect the true teaching of Christ. Newton's writings on religion were never published, because he was concerned he would be charged with blasphemy. A Newton scholar who specializes in Newton's theological writings was kind enough to identify this note as relating to Newton's manuscript King's College, Cambridge, Keynes MS 5. The note is remarkably well-preserved. Often these manuscript pages are brittle and yellowed, but this example is supple. It can be handled without any flaking or chipping. There are no tears or other damage. 7.25" wide, varying from 2" to 3" in height. Comes with a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
