Description: Ariston Illinois Watch Co. 14/12 size 23 jewel open face pendant-set Ariston pocket watch. An excellent example of this rare and elegant high grade private label watch, the Ariston series was produced by Illinois for the Marshall Field & Co. of Chicago, Illinois. This example features a Grade 510 movement with gold jewel settings, gold balance screws, gold train wheels, striped pattern nickel damaskeen, and a diamond endstone on its balance. The diamond endstone is notable as this was only found among a portion of Illinois' top grade production. Watch is tripled signed with an Ariston marked movement, case, and dial. Dial is double-sunk enamel with elegant tall Arabic hour numerals. Case is gold-filled with initials engraved to its rear and with a 1916 presentation engraving to its cuvette. Movement serial number is 2701579. Running and a very nice looking movement with excellent color and luster. Dial has some scattered hairlines and has two small nicks to the upper portion of the inner rim of its outer chapter. Case has an excellent in-hand look and feel with good engraving detail and just a mild ding to its band near the 5:30 position and one missing end-cap to its front hinge. Good glass crystal.
