Description: ILdefonso Pueblo Black in Blackware / Red Clay - Late 20th Century~ SKULL. Hello There! Halloween is Almost here, but I wanted To list this Extraordinary Piece Right as Hallow’s Eve Approaches. I’ve Considered it a Mystery for Sometime. It Dates to the Mid to Late 20th Century. The Black on Blackware Skull, on red ware Clay, by a manner of Maria Martinez, The San ILdefonso Potter, *( Pueblo~ P’ohwhogeh Owingeh)* 1887-1980)*Maria Martinez, however, The Signature is not consistent With the Noted “ Marie” Signatures. The Skull has Hollowed Out Eyes, and Cheeks, with incised Clinched Teeth, and a Skull Breakline on the Back with a Repeated “ Feather Pattern”, As Dr Lori noted in my Appraisal From her, She stated that this Piece even tho. Not a Signature match to Maria, Shows Characteristics of Pottery Sculptures which were Made by Pueblo Potters in the MID 20th Century, for DAY OF THE DEAD EVENTS”~This Piece provides Strong Evidence To a Sculptures of that Period., Possibly “Maria- Emilia Santa Martinez”. Measures 6x7 “ 18 “ Circumference. Extremely Well made. In my Studies, I Cannot find a Skull that even comes close to This Artists Work.Thank You for Viewing and Please view All pictures.Happy Halloweeeen!
