Description: **IMPORTANT TO NOTE** This piece was naturally grimy from sitting for many years in a Southern US estate (GA). I properly cleaned it, without removing any overglaze decoration, but it extended to the foot rim (which was almost stuck to a deteriorating/incorrect stand). Foot rim shows minimal signs of natural aging due to this. I have handled may fine pieces, and this is one of them. Beautiful 17" Japanese, hard paste porcelain, polychrome charger. The exquisite Imari design features hand painted underglaze blue decoration, with multi-color enameled and gold gilt motifs with shi shi or foo lions, chrysanthemums and other floral designs, fenced garden with stylized clouds, and other elements from nature. It has Kangxi Chinese style mark that can be found on other transitional examples from the Edo to Meiji period. It has an unglazed foot rim, and very light celadon glaze, as seen on traditional Japanese porcelain from the period. It fluoresces dark purple under uv light, consistent with hard paste porcelain (seen with two other armorial plates that are also available in my shop). It is in excellent condition with slight wear to decoration, minor glaze pitting from firing, and no chips/cracks/repairs. Hand incised, under glaze, decoration lines for enamel distribution. Just an impressive piece for any collection! Make sure to check out the other pieces in my shop!!
