Begins with a description of late 17th century and early 18th century Connecticut, with remarks on the people and culture of that time. Treats with the first pastor, John Bulkley, and the books that he wrote; he was pastor of the church for nearly thirty years. The second pastor was the Rev. Ephraim Little - his times were that of the Great Awakening, with some discussion of the numbers added to the congregation during the 1740's, as a result of the revival. A description of George Whitefield and his ministry in New England reveals that the closest that evangelist was to Colchester was the village of Middletown, about 16 miles distant. Rev. Little, in keeping with the majority of the Congregational ministers of Connecticut, appears to have been opposed to the new methods of the "New Lights,"; there is some material on his opposing a New Light minister from preaching in his parish. This is a surprisingly detailed account of the ministers and life of the church from its beginning until the end of the 19th century.
