Description: Galleria SPSAS / Skira Editore, 1995. First edition. Oblong softcover. Printed for an exhibition that ran August 5 through September 24, 1995 at Galleria SPSAS. Essay by Peter Hay Halpert. Includes 30 black and white images from his best known body of work of theaters. A clean excellent like new copy in French style wrappers Illustrated throughout with black & white reproductions of movie-palaces and drive-in screens. Contains brief biographical notes, Sugimoto's exhibition history, selected collections with his work, and a selected bibliography at rear. As the critic Vince Aletti has suggested, there is a sort of "overheated imagination" at work in these palaces which couldn't be sustained. The photographs of the drive-in theaters have a similar haunted feel to them. The first drive-in theater was opened in 1933: by 1958, there were more than 4,000 drive-in screens in the U.S. Book measures 9 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches. This edition is in excellent like new condition with no missing or damaged pages and all the inside pages are clean and bright. There are no bookplates, tears or underlining/highlighting of text or writing in the margins. Please email with any questions and please "VIEW SELLERS OTHER ITEMS". Thanks.
