Description: You will receive a 1/2" to 1.5" diameter seedling bulb of Hippeastrum 'TAC Mead Strain' that is in it's second year of growth. See the example photo of bulbs with the engineering scale. With Good care the bulb may reach flowering size within 1-2 more growing seasons. This is not a single clone or variety but rather a collection of seedlings that we have grown from hybridizing candy-strip heirloom garden Amaryllis Garden hybids – Hippeastrum hyb. Hippeastrum hyb. ‘TAC Mead Strain’ Theodore Mead was an American pioneer of Hippeastrum Breeding. The ‘Mead Strain’ candy-stripe Amaryllis is one of the more prominent pass-along bulbs in southeastern gardens. A large portion of no-name heirloom pass along garden amaryllis could probably be traced back to the partnership of Theodore Mead and Henry Nehrling. The Amaryllis Conservatory offering of Mead Strain is a seed grown mix from Candy-Stripe Type heirlooms we have collected from garden friends throughout the Southeast. The pictures on this page are a good representation of the array of forms we have generated with this strain. Many of the plants have the typical ‘vittatum’ type species look, but there is a nice surprise here and there. All the seedlings we have grown of this strain have been fragrant and great garden performers.
