Description: Asbury, Herbert. The Gangs of New York: An Informal History of the Underworld. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1928. Offered for sale is copy of Herbert Asbury's classic study, The Gangs of New York--in its first edition (the true first, from Knopf), the first printing, of 1928. This copy is in good and perhaps very good condition. The covers, esp. at the points, are worn and bumped (the boards showing through)--but the binding and hinges are very sturdy. The interior is free of underscores, annotations, &c. One leaf was damaged--probably during the binding (see fig. 14). The burgundy top-stain and the cloth of the back-strip remain bold, though the latter is a bit wrinkled. The upper portion of a number of leaves are slightly bent (see figs. 15-17). This is, at all events, a desirable copy of a scarce title. The book will be posted, for *FREE*, by USPS Priority Mail. Buyers abroad will be served by eBay's International Shipping Program.
