HENRI RENE - AUTOGRAPH NOTE SIGNED 1950 CO-SIGNED BY: TEX WILLIAMS - HFSID 34086 HENRI RENE and TEX WILLIAMS Rene and Williams write notes to radio/TV host George Sanders Autograph Note signed: "To George/Keep 'em spinning!/Lots of luck/Henri Rene" and, on verso: "Here's wishing Continued/success to a swell guy/and a fine D.J. My very/best to you George/Tex Williams", 8x4 album leaf. At lower margin of his page, Rene later added: "P.S. It still goes! 1958". HENRI RENE (1906-1993), although born in New York City, went to Berlin as a child and studied at the Royal Academy of Music there. He became an arranger for Electrola, an affiliate of RCA Records in Berlin and later was music director for both Electrola and the German movie studio, UFA. In 1936, Rene became the musical director for the international branch of Victor Records, and five years later he formed a small orchestra before joining the Army. After WWII, he returned to RCA, where he arranged and conducted a number of light classical releases. Rene also issued a series of LPs, including Music for Bachelors (a collector's album that features Jayne Mansfield in a negligee on the cover), Compulsion to Swing and Riot in Rhythm, and produced Harry Belafonte's landmark 1956 album, Calypso, and a few Eartha Kitt LPs. After retiring from RCA in 1959, he independently released White Heat, which included a version of "Woody Woodpecker", before returning to RCA in 1961 for Dynamic Dimension. Born Sollie Paul Williams, "TEX" WILLIAMS (1917-1985) was a lead vocalist and guitar player for Spade Cooley's band until he and several other band members left to form their own group, Tex Williams and The Western Caravan, in 1946. The group's biggest hit, ""Smoke! Smoke! Smoke (That Cigarette)" was written for Williams by Merle Travis and became Capitol Records' first million seller. In 1949, Universal-International began starring Williams (along with Deuce Spriggins and Smokey Rogers) in a series of musical shorts that ran until 1951. Williams also made a number of feature Westerns, including Devil Riders and Fighting Valley (both 1943), South of Santa Fe and Ready to Ride (both 1949), Fargo Phantom (1950) and Born Reckless (1959). Lightly soiled at right margin. Light show through of writing on verso at writing and signature (all legible). Overall, fine condition.
