Description: (Hear) 1964 Bobby Charles Soul / Swamp Pop M- 45 (I Hope / Goodnite Irene) Bobby Charles – “I Hope” b/w “Goodnite Irene” (Jewel 729). Excellent spring of 1964 release by cajun singer Robert Charles Guidry Charles who helped to pioneer the south Louisiana musical genre known as swamp pop. His compositions include the hits "See You Later, Alligator", which he initially recorded as "Later Alligator", but which is best known from the cover version by Bill Haley & His Comets, and "Walking to New Orleans" and "It Keeps Rainin'", written for Fats Domino. "(I Don't Know Why) But I Do" was an early 1960s song that Charles composed, was a major hit for Clarence "Frogman" Henry. Because of his south Louisiana–influenced rhythm and blues vocal style, Charles sometimes has been thought to be black, when in fact he was white. “I hope is a good pop soul ballad while the flip is a re-working of a classic folk song. Take a listen to a little of each. Record is a cut-out in M- condition.
