Hans Meid, German, orig. etch, signed, Jungbrunnen, 1916. Hand-signed by the artist and dated (19)'16, this lovely etching, titled Jungbrunnen (Fountain of Youth) is printed on thick cream wove paper with the Van Gelder Zonen watermark. The etching measures 26.6cm x 35.5cm, and the full sheet, complete with original deckle edges, measures 33.6cm x 50.8cm. There is no edition number but this was still quite usual at the time. An excellent impression in good condition, very clean. Small tape remnants verso. Unframed. HANS MEID, (1883 - 1957) was a leading German impressionist during the first decades of the twentieth century. A talented lithographic artist, etcher, engraver and painter, he created over 550 lithographs, etchings and dry-points, mostly landscapes, figure studies and portraits. Most were made between 1910 and 1930, usually considered Meid's most creative period. After studying art in Karlsruhe he worked as a designer for the Meissen porcelain factory whilst exhibiting his etchings and lithographs throughout Europe. In 1911 he won the Villa Romana prize. In the same year he became a member of the Vienna Succession. He was later Professor of Engraving at Berlin Academy before opening his own studio for the graphic arts. It is in Excellent Condition, and measures, 14 inch by 10 1/2 inch, (35.5cm x 26.6cm). (Image size). The sheet is 20 inch by 13 1/4 inch, (50.8cm x 33.6cm).
