Description: Very nice hand made High Carbon Steel hatchet with leather belt sheath. Handle is approx 6" with a red & tan then red laminate wood . The super sharp blade is approx 4.5" making this an excellent choice for the back pack or knife sack. The weight of hatchet and sheath is just under 1.5lbs so not a lot of extra weight to be packing around. High Carbon Steel holds an edge very well and is optimum for hunting and skinning uses as well as survival activities. However the steel is very corrosive and will tarnish when blood, or other chemicals come into contact with the blade. The blade will still cut, but will lose the satin color when it was new. Leather can pull moisture out of the air and might aid in rusting the blade if stored in the sheath for long duration of time. Therefore when you are done with your hunt, clean the knife with soap and water, fully dry the knife, coat the knife in gun-oil, and store away from the sheath.
