Newhouser, one of Baseball's best Pitchers, had an outstanding run from 1944-1946, winning back-to-back American League MVP Awards and then finishing second in 1946. Newhouser played for the Detroit Tigers from 1939-1953 before finishing up his career in Cleveland in 1954-55. He was a 7-time All-Star, led Detroit to the 1945 World Series Championship and won the 1945 Pitching Triple Crown. "Prince Hal" led the American League in Wins 4 times, ERA twice and in Strikeouts twice. In 1944 he was 29-9 with a 2.22 ERA, and in 1945 he was 25-9 with a 1.81 ERA, the only Pitcher to win the MVP back-to-back. In his career he was 207-150 with a 3.06 ERA, 1796 Strikeouts and 33 Shutouts. His Number 16 is retired by the Tigers, and he was inducted to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992.
