Description: H & Co Heinrich Bavaria US Zone Bread & Butter Side Plate ROMANCE aka STRASBOURG For consideration is this vintage bread and butter or side plate made by H & Co., or Heinrich and Company in Selb, Bavaria in Germany, between 1945 and 1949. The pattern name is ROMANCE, pattern #16099. This pattern is multi-floral with the main focus on the pink and yellow lilies and colored with more flowers in blues, purples and green leaves on a white background and accented in gold at the rim and a circle in the center of the body. It is my understanding that this pattern was made exclusively for the large John Wanamaker Department Store in Philadelphia. Wanamaker’s sold Heinrich china from 1931 to 1940 and the pattern name at that time was STRASBOURG. My impression is that the pattern was re-named during the time when Bavaria was occupied by the US after the end of World War II from 1945 to 1949 and Wanamaker’s had stopped selling Heinrich china. This side plate measures 6 inches in diameter and the base is marked in green ink with the crown logo, “H&Co Selb Bavaria Germany Heinrich” and “Romance”.
