Description: Offered for sale is a Decorative Hen Harlequin Duck Decoy in Swimming Posture by Connie Tveten (pronounced tweeten, 1945 - present) of Fort Peck, Montana. Fort Peck is located on Fort Peck Lake along the Missouri River in northeastern Montana. Extensive wing relief and tail carving along with very time-consuming wood burning of feathers make this decoy very realistic and lifelike. The royal blue speculum is flashing on the right side, and even the bill has carved nares and is shiny like water is still on the surface. The Harlequin Duck is life-size and measures approximately 14 inches in length and 4 inches high. Harlequin Ducks favor fast-flowing mountain rivers and streams for breeding and rocky windswept coastal regions during the winter. Studies have shown that many adults have had broken bones likely due to their harsh environments. This carving is in beautiful condition with no breaks or repairs. The paint is all original with only light rubbing present to the bill, nares, and tail tips. The underside has a Guyette and Schmidt auction sticker present, and "CONNIE TVETEN '93' HARL. H. #2" has been wood-burned by the maker on the bottom. The Hen is heavy for its size and solid. Tveten is very well known for her decorative hawk, eagle, songbird, and duck carvings. They almost always depict great care in plumage characteristics, proportions and posture. The decoy will be heavily bubble wrapped and mailed in a larger box with plenty of extra cardboard and paper packing material. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Only the decoy is for sale in the auction listing. Thanks so much!
