The artwork features several women and young girls, in different poses and activities, one is a mother and child, another is a young girl reading, a girl playing piano, woman reading, and so forth. It is matted and has a certificate on the back of the drawing, identifying the artist and date as 1914, and is signed 1973. Back of drawing has a certificate from 1973 and bio stating: "GOTHER VICTOR YERS MANN (1863-1948) MANN CAME FROM A FAMILY WHICH HAD PLAYED A LEADING PART IN THE EXPLORATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF AUSTRALIA. HIS GRANDFATHER WAS SIR THOMAS MITCHELL, THE EXPLORER, AND HIS FATHER WAS A MEMBER OF THE 1846 AND 1847 LEICHHARDT'S EXPEDITION. BORN IN SYDNEY IN 1863, HE LATER BECAME AN ARCHITECT AFTER SERVING HIS ARTICLES WITH COLONEL THOMAS LOWE, HE PRACTISED IN BRISBANE AND IN SYDNEY BEFORE BEING AWARDED A GOLD MEDAL FOR DRAFTSMANSHIP AND DESIGN IN 1886. MANN STUDIED ART UNDER JULIAN ASHTON; TOM ROBERTS AND SIR ARTHUR STREETON. HE FIRST EXHIBITED WITH THE SOCIETY OF ARTISTS IN 1898. HE WAS ENGAGED TO CATALOGUE THE COLLECTIONS OF THE ART GALLERY OF NEW SOUTH WALES,AND SHORTLY AFTERWARDS,1905,WAS APPOINTED GALLERY DIRECTOR. HE WAS DIRECTOR FOR 24 YEARS, AND FOR 37 YEARS UNTIL HIS DEATH WAS A MEMBER OF THE COMMONWEALTH ART ADVISORY BOARD. FROM 1918 UNTIL 1948 HE WAS CHAIRMAN OF THE BC RD. IN 1914 AND 1926 HE WENT OVERSEAS TO BUY WORKS OF ART FOR THE GALLERY. IN 1928, FOR HIS SERVICES TO AUSTRALIAN ART, HE WAS PRESENTED WITH THE SOCIETY OF ARTISTS MEDAL. IN 1929 HE WAS CREATED A C.B.E.
