Description: Small Delft "sampler" cobalt intaglio hand-painted Tobacco Jar made by Goedewaagen ( Gouda, Netherlands 1779-1982) exhibiting their Royal Patent tradename and "Crossed Pipes" hallmark on the base. This rare "sampler" jar similarly illustrates the common van Rossem's V.O.C/ Dutch East India tobacco concession trademark vignette of two Caribbean Arawak Indians smoking tobacco pipes, and displays the tobacco product name " Cesare Borgia" ( apparently named for the illegitimate son of Pope Alexander VI) measuring 5.5in overall height, 4.0in at widest girth, with a 2.75in mouth, showing in excellent vintage condition including the brass fitted lid. The base shows pottery mold mark 1427. This is a rare, interesting tobacco sampler jar by a premium Dutch maker.
