Description: You sick of those new fangled 1952 telecasters and 1959 Les Pauls? In the market for something even more vintage than your buddies 1955 strat? This guitar was built before America entered World War II. Selling for $300 back in 1941, that's the equivalent of $6500 today. This was Gibson top of the line archtop, and being a natural finish, it got all of Gibson's best wood. When I got this guitar it was a total project. It had no hardware, but all of the wood was in pretty good shape. I found tuners from 1980's that fit the pattern already present on the neck and all the other hardware, including a Brazilian rosewood bridge and tailpiece are from the 1950s. Only the knobs are original. As for the pickup, I had the winder at Revel pickup create a new one based on the original schematic. Lastly, I sent the guitar to MJT to have the finish touched up, smoothing out some of the parts where the color was uneven, and having a new clear coat put over the top so that it feels new in your hand. There were cracks and little divots consistent with an 80 year old guitar but most of that has disappeared under the new top coat. See all picture for condition. Ships in non-original case.
