Description: This a Getzen Eterna Long-bell Bb-A Piccolo Trumpet with furnished Blackburn (Louisville) lead pipes. Its serial number is stamped P21956.The bell is emblazoned on its superior surface with “Eterna by Getzen.” I have long believed this to be an Eterna 3916, perhaps an early 3916 or what I have read to be the 916; however, I cannot confirm any of this. [Notice that the third-valve slide is on the right side rather than on the right as seen in most pictures of the 3916.] Nor do I care. What’s important to me and anyone who buys this instrument is that it plays well and that it indeed does with great intonation. I estimate this horn to be about 35 years old. To test its musical quality, I played the Vivaldi "Gloria" with it in in 2017. The valves are excellent and show no slop or leakage. I do not know the bore size. With a red arrow, I point to the missing slide stop on the fourth-valve slide. It was missing when I purchased the instrument about ten years ago and I have never missed it. [I control the extremes of moveable slides with hair bands on all of my 30 trumpets. Many pros do this. It works better than stops and is quickly adjustable to secure the slides closed during transport.] One is probably obtainable from Getzen, but I prefer to keep the slide retracted as it is more secure than when allowed to passively extend. And this pin-style stop has proved to score the finish on some of my Bachs. The hair bands work somewhat like a soft trigger to spring the slide closed. Despite discoloring, the leadpipes are in perfect condition. With a black arrow, I point to a slightly flattened area where the fourth-valve slide has perhaps been dropped. This is minor. There are two other slightly flattened areas noted by black arrows. They do not noticeably affected sound quality. With a yellow arrow, I point to what appears to be scratches on the right rear bell but these are merely reflections. However, the yellow arrow (S1) pointing to the left rear bell is of some real scratches; however, they are minor and cannot be felt with my fingers. The multiple turquoise arrows point to a general area of hand wear on the front of the valve casing and top of the fourth-valve slide. I am unable to show this with photography. Another, but obvious, area of wear (perhaps from rubbing inside a case) is the first-valve valve cap. If more pictures are needed, please request.
