The map shows the area between St. Vith, Stadtkyll, Cochem, St. Wendel and Luxembourg with Trier and the Southwestern Eifel in the center. Also includes large parts of the eastern part of the Duché de Luxembourg. At the top center there is a full colored title cartouche with volutes, flowers, two putti and a coat of arms. Mile pointer cartouche on the left. According to Pastoureau and Hellwig, the map first appeared in Paris in 1674 by Sanson, then from 1684 in Alexis Hubert Jaillot and Nicolas Sanson Atlas nouveau.Historically, the Archbishopric Johann Hugo von Orsbeck (1676–1711) of Trier was one of the most powerful ecclesiastical principalities in the Holy Roman Empire. It encompassed lands on both sides of the Moselle River, including parts of present-day Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, and North Rhine-Westphalia.
