Description: Vintage German Small Majolica Plate Beautiful Raised Design on Yellow Basketweave Background Blue Grapes with Green Colored Leaves GS Zell 223 For Your Majolica Art Pottery Collection Details Description: An beautiful and very decorative German majolica plate. The plate which is yellow in color has a raised design depicting a bunch of blue grapes with green grape leaves around it. This design is on top of a basketweave or basket weave raised design background, just great looking. The yellow plate has beautiful blue and green colors. The back of the plate is undecorated but is marked with numbers and with indication of the maker and its origin. The back has a raised foot with a flat area within it. Just a beautiful decorative majolica plate. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Uncertain but most likely mid to late 20th century. Origin: Baden Germany. Size: Measures ~6 5/8" in diameter and is ~3/4" high. The plate weighs about 7 1/2 ounces. Maker: GS Zell of Baden Germany. Marks: Marked with the words GS Zell within a drawing of a cup with the word Germany under it on the back of the plate. It also has the number 223 stamped into the back. Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice and very interesting piece of Majolica that is in good condition. The piece would display very well and make a nice addition to your Majolica collection. Condition: The plate is in good condition with no cracks, hairlines, chips, repairs, or crazing to the glaze. It does have three small spots where the glaze did not fully flow or possibly flaked off. Two are located on the edge of the bottom leaf (top left side-shows as white spots in the first photo) and the third spot is within the bottom leaf but very difficult to see. Other than that this is a beautiful vintage majolica plate from Germany. Please note that the three spots near the edge on the back are where the prongs on which the plate rested while it was being fired and when the plate was removed some of the glaze stuck to them.
