Details: Fifty-two years old Near Mint FUNNY AMINALS #1, with a very low distribution, and the “Join the Kollege of Karnal Knowledge With the Cute Li'l” FUNNY AMINALS #1 includes eight creative stories, as follows: The Working Girl Double Trouble Captain Flashlight Fights the Animal Cracker Zombies The Toadette King This Bitter Earth Stinky the Pig What A World! Feelin' Glum? FUNNY AMINALS #1 starts with Robert Crumb's two-part cat-and-bird animal tale, "What a World!" The story's three primary characters are portrayed on the front cover of the comic book, where the foundation of the plot is summarized without a word; there are two hep cats that lust after the savory meat of a giant bird, and their scheme is to capture her for a feast. As with most of Robert Crumb's work, violence and death are presented as a natural aspect of everyday-life and "What a World!" concludes with the naive kitties getting their just desserts. This is an underground comic book that was created as an anti-animal-vivisection benefit book. It includes Art Spiegelman's three-page precursor story to his graphic novel Maus: A Survivor's Tale. It has a semi-glossy color cover. FUNNY AMINALS #1 features the first appearance of Maus. Maus is a graphic novel or actually a graphic memoir since it is a true story. ... Spiegelman created “Maus” as a “frame tale,” depicting his '70s conversations with his father as a contextual window into the World War II experiences of Vladek and his wife, Anja — both Polish Jews who were persecuted by the Nazis. Initially this rare comic book was brought about because of the horror that Terry Zwigoff had experienced after visiting a slaughterhouse. He wanted to come out with a statement against cruelty to animals. The stories that were submitted did not reflect this statement of purpose. As Robert Crumb stated in the Complete Crumb Volume Nine, “Zwigoff relinquished his editorial position and did not want to have anything more to do with the final results.” Robert Crumb, Art Spiegelman, Jay Lynch, and Shary Flenniken created the story and art. Robert Crumb did the cover. Later, Art Spiegelman was honored with a Pulitzer Prize for his book Maus. Robert Dennis Crumb, born 1943, is an American cartoonist who often signs his work R. Crumb. His work displays a nostalgia for American folk culture of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and satire of contemporary American culture.
